Welcome to Mudpickers Boat Hire Townsville:
North Queensland’s number one boat hire company.
There’s nothing better than getting out on the water. Whether it’s crabbing at Cungulla, cruising Cleveland Bay, wetting your line at West Point, or heading to Hinchinbrook; we have a hire boat to suit every adventure.
Mudpickers is a locally-owned and family-run business. Operating from our base in Townsville, we share your passion for boating and pride ourselves on our local knowledge and service.
Hiring a boat is a fantastic and affordable way to spend the day with the family or a week away fishing with friends, without the expense and maintenance involved with owning your own vessel.
All of our boats are maintained to the highest of standards with up-to-date safety equipment, and meet all requirements set down by Maritime Safety Queensland.
We have polycrafts and tinnie boats available for hire, including options that do not require a Recreational Marine Drivers’ Licence (RMDL). Plus we have a spacious pontoon boat that’s ideal for bespoke charters – you tell us what you want, and we’ll tailor a trip to suit.
Our hires are from Townsville, but our boats can be used anywhere in the North Queensland region (as long as it’s Smooth and Partially Smooth Waters. Check out the maps on our Tricks & Tips page).
If you’re new to the region or unsure where to go, we are more than happy to point you in the right direction — we want you to have an amazing day out on the water.
Once you’ve hired a Mudpickers boat, we’re sure you’ll agree that the best boat’s a hire boat!
What do others say about us? Read the reviews on Trip Advisor.
Are you a business, educational institution or environmental organisation? Mudpickers also offers commercial boat hire for short and long term periods. Our vessels are fully-compliant and have all the safety equipment on board. Please contact us for more information and our boat availability.
We can hire Mud03 without a Recreational Marine Driver’s Licence (RMDL), but the others do require a boat licence. The great news? The course is only about seven hours, can be done locally, and Mudpickers clients get good deals. We like to work with Andrew Ryder Boat Licensing and Marine Boat License & Training.
A Mudpicker is...
Perhaps not what you think! The term ‘Mudpicker’ refers to the residents of South Townsville and Railway Estate. Back before the bridge was built, they would cross the muddy creek by foot at low tide to get to town. When they got to the other side, they would pause to pick the mud out of their toes… hence ‘Mudpickers’!
